A busy 36 hours

Our arrival into Paris yesterday was marked with a blood red sunrise, and though it was cool at 7:30am the day warmed quickly.

We easily transferred terminals and found our hotel- Citizen M. Very funky and busy in the public areas. The rooms were tiny but well laid out and the beds super comfy. We had a view over the runway and the concord from our windows. After a freshen up we jumped on a train into the centre of Paris for a look around.

The train arrived at Gare du Nord, and we started to wander towards the Seine. The thought that we weren't exactly sure of our location threw Jack into a spin! Being 'lost' has it's benefits as I did manage to sniff out an excellent coffee on Rue St Denis, confirmed by a fellow Aussie who ordered just after I did- he assured me that he had been living in Paris for 6 months and it was the best he had found. Yum! We also had a peek through an old covered market and a number of 'passages' leading off the main street.

It was time for some lunch so we took the metro over to St Germain and found a cafe with typical tourist fare, snails and crepes. The restaurant was in an old building, with the downstairs dining room and bathrooms almost cave-like. Afterwards we took a stroll along the river and enjoyed some sunshine in an attempt to reset our body clocks.

Back at the airport hotel it was takeaway baguettes for dinner and early to bed as we couldn't keep our eyes open... Until 3am when we couldnt keep them shut. Doh.

Brekky was a buffet at a nearby hotel- 'kids eat free' works perfectly for us to get our money worth haha. We set off for the flight to Biarritz shortly after and thankfully we had allowed plenty of time as the bag drop line was long- around 45 mins waiting. We were pleased to find Baz's exit row seat entitled us to speedy boarding so we didnt need to queue again, however that was short lived when we were bussed out to the waiting plane on the tarmac and everything ground to a halt.  We stood on the bus for nearly an hour before they let us board. It turns out that they had a deportee from the UK from the previous flight on board and the police hadn't arrived to collect him! Finally the local police arrived and casually wandered over to collect their charge and they allowed us on the plane.

The flight was just over an hour, just long enough for Baz to witness what could have been a couple break up directly across the aisle from him! Tears, histronics and much frantic discussion in french made it seem that way, perhaps the Hills family on holidays bring the kiss of death for French romance?

Our apartment here is lovely, plenty of space and with the beach at the end of the street. We ate lunch overlooking the Grand Plage, enjoyed a nana nap in the afternoon and then rounded our day out with a walk and dinner at the Creperie across the street from our front door. They made pizza's on crepe bases which were light and tasty, and mussels and frites- a local dish with the mussels cooked in cider and cream. Jack has renewed his love for Orangina with a vengeance, he'll need a sugar detox when we get home.

Even with a fix his eyelids were heavy- that's Amy holding them open for him! It's an early night again, with plans to check out the local market and perhaps the aquarium tomorrow.

Bon nuit xx
