Feeling right at home

We packed up our gear and moved to higher ground today- and a real change of pace. As we had a few hours to kill between checking out and then in again we set off on foot in a different direction for a look around. Daily km 8.24.... Not our best effort but ok!

I can't help but admire the detail in our surrounds, freshly hosed down footpath, with an embossed pattern. We have all noticed even in the old narrow lanes and walks that this city feels clean and well loved.

After a wander through the leafy streets of Eixample, we were drawn back down through El Raval and the narrow old city lanes. It did seem to us that we wer enjoying sights for Charles today, spotting a shop full of guns and commando gear, followed by vintage Marvel toys. Thinking of you Chailes!

We then succumbed to the lure of the Boqueria for a few tasty eats again. We have seen a couple of other markets in the city (apparently there are 34 in all!) but the large touristy market right off La Ramblas just drags us in every time.

Pizza by the slice, and a squid lollipop!!!

Our new home is in a hotel- Primero Primera, and the suite we have is huge with a separate room and twin beds for the kids, our own terrace and a real 'Mad Men' feel about the place. I half expect Don Draper to pop out of the bar drink in hand....

The grounds have a private garden and even a small pool, thankfully we were the only ones there today when J and A decided to shatter the peace! The common areas are welcoming, and it really feels like being invited into someone's own home for a visit.

Movida's guide to Barcelona had recommended a bar for the best patatas bravas in Barcelona, coincidentally about 600m from our new digs. Thanks for the loan of that book Mum!

A quick walk through quiet streets found us mingling with locals and their young families in the neighbourhood- toddlers on scooters, teenagers mooching about and even a long skipping rope across a quiet lane.

Then a pizza stop to ensure some veggie intake all round- not sure either pickled clams or potatoes are a complete food group!

The locals around here were wanting to chat and ask where we came from, and we all felt very welcome and comfortable. It's clearly an upmarket area, with the streets well laid out and easily navigated, apartment buildings modern and greened up, and inviting shops and food stores. This place feels like somewhere we could live!
